Title:
Benchmarking the road to quantum utility with QUOPS

Abstract:
As the field begins to scale up the size and computational power of quantum computers in the early fault-tolerant era, it is important that we create new benchmarks to enable direct, holistic comparison of the performance of different physical and logical architectures. To fill this role, we designed the Quantum Universal Operations Performance Score (QUOPS) benchmark to rigorously measure the size of the largest computationally relevant quantum circuits that can be executed on a quantum device, and the rate at which it can execute them.  We present simulated and experimental results from multiple state-of-the-art vendors, and the projected QUOPS necessary for scientifically relevant challenge problems.
